Check Out The Farm Animals at the 2024 Tioga County Fair!

by Sara Vogt - August 7th, 2024

Lions, Tigers, and Bears—no! This broadcast highlights pigs, sheep, dairy cows, steers, and rabbits! We interviewed three young animal exhibitors for this broadcast at the 58th annual Tioga County Fair.

Our first exhibitor is Karah Blackwell, whose rabbit Maple won four ribbons. Two represent the best breed, which is the best animal of that breed. The other two ribbons were for best in show in both open and 4H.
She named her Maple because she was born in the middle of maple syrup season! Karah is passionate about Maple Syrup. Karah also showed us her dairy cow, Charlie. She appreciates dairy farmers because her family heritage comes from her father and mother, both of whom were raised on a dairy farm.

Our second exhibitor is Melania Love, who, unlike the other exhibitors, did not grow up on a farm but was in 4H. After coming to the fair over the years, she began to desire to raise animals, too! She is showing twelve New Zealand rabbits at the fair. She loves working with the animals and the people she meets along the way! Rabbits and beef! She raised Speedy, a Hereford Steer who weighs one thousand one hundred and fifteen rounds! He will be a market steer coming up this Saturday at the fair!

Our third exhibitor is Jon Kieser, who also raised two different animals. Jon chose to raise sheep and pigs. Jon was raised around sheep, so it seemed natural for him to show them at the fair. He decided to show pigs because his sister showed pigs at the fair, and it seemed to be something he would also like to do. He is encouraging others to come to the fair to see the animals and those who raise them – maybe someday you will want to join in on the fun of the fair!

Coming to the fair is an excellent way for everyone to see the wonderful animals these children are choosing to raise.
