Red Raiders Cinch Victory Over Warriors, 19-16

by Wyatt Wood - September 23, 2024

On Friday, September 20th, the Canton Warriors football team hosted the Montgomery Red Raiders. It was a tight game, but ultimately fell in Montgomery’s favor, 19-16.

Four minutes into the first quarter – the Red Raiders got on the board first, advancing their way down the field to the goal line with quarterback keeper up the center. The kick was no good – Montgomery led 6-0.

On Canton’s next possession, first and 10 on the Raider 44, Warrior Bailey Gardner takes the handoff up the middle, bounces outside and burns his way down the sideline. Touchdown, Warriors! The game is tied, 6-6.

With just seconds left the quarter, Montgomery does an outside pitch, cuts in – touchdown. The extra point is good, putting Montgomery back on top, 13-6.

Second quarter – the Red Raiders in scoring position again – another outside pitch as Coy Bryson dives into the end zone. Red Raiders up, 19-6.

Just before halftime, the Warriors break down Montgomery’s defense – Gardner takes the rock, hits the outside uncontested – touchdown Canton! The point after attempt is good, Canton trailing 19-13.

Third quarter. Both defenses held resolute until Canton, 4th and five on the seven, line up for a field goal. Alexis McRoberts’ kick sails through the uprights, getting Canton closer – 19-16.

Both defensive blockades couldn’t be broken, silencing the scoreboard to end the fourth quarter with a final score, 19-16 Montgomery.

The Warriors will be on the road this Friday against the Towanda Black Knights.
